Substanial update to follow which willl include photos from Family Weekend at Ithaca

Why I blog

So I read an entry in Michelle's blog ( Who Are We To Judge) about why she blogs. Her blog is mostly about the play she is working on but she talked a little bit about why she blogs in general that made me think about why I blog.. and in some cases why I choose not too.

I have been blogging since 2003 when I stated a journal on teenopendiary a website which someone I met through myspace (I believe her name was Alicia) introduced me to. I then moved over to livejournal at the end of 2004 because as my friends and I were getting ready to leave for college we baiscally used that as way to keep in touch with each other until facebook was created in 2005. Once facebook was created our converstations mostly transported over to there and less and less people started to use livejournal resulting in lots of inactive blogs that haven't been updated since 2005. There were still a few people from high school who ocassionally updated theirs so I used it to keep in touch with them and then once I graduated from NEC quite a few people I knew had them so I used as a method to keep in touch with them since I primarily do not make as much use as instant messanger as I once did so livejounral is a good way to keep myself updated on how they are doing. I started a blospot blog in September 2007 to ween myself away from using livejournal quite so often.. I still feel the need to update livejournal on occassion because I know there are few people who still read it. Eventually I plan on deleting livejournal all together. Hopefully my friends who still read livejournal will remember to favorite these blogspot blogs.
Now that you are aware of my extenstive blogging past I will move into the reasons why I blog and why sometimes I choose not too.

I have three blogs on blogspot this one , the one about my job training program at St Joe's Hospital and the one with my theatre reviews in it. This blog is mostly for me. I use it to write in when I feel the need to so it is really not updated very much. One reason I choose not to blog is because I feel it is important to form a boundary line between what is personal and what can be posted on the interent. It took me a while and two bad experiences with people from situations that happened when I was in college to get me to know that it is not the wisest thing to post personal entries that are about specific people. With livejournal it easy because you can mark entries as private but in one situation I left an entry opened for everybody to read and the person who I wrote it about found it. Big mess. The second situation occured when I wrote a nasty entry in my myspace blog about a fight I had gotten in with my roommate at the time Alllison Graham. She found it and it only made the situation with that worse. For the record I no longe have myspace but the fight that steemed from the entry I posted had nothing to do with why I deleted it. I just found that most of my friends were on facebook and it didn't make sense to have the two accounts active. It was a conversation I had with Will Porter one night after Annie Get Your Gun rehearsal that made me realize it is sometimes better to write personal things in a regular diary. That is actually why I took a hiatus from posting in this blog during my Barn Playhouse depression and subsequent falling out with Will. During that time I was mad at myself a lot for not being able to let go of stuff related to the Barn in a certain amount of time when most everyone else had moved on as soon as we left there. I took an indefinite break from blogging during that period of time to work through some issues on my own. Writing in my regular diary during this period time helped a lot and I am forever greatful to Will for that advice. I hope he realizes that.

I mostly update this blog for myself and don't really care too much if other people read it. If people read and comment that is absoulutley fine with me but they are not obligated to comment. There was a time when I went through a phase when all I cared about was people commenting on my entries and looking back on that I realize that I have This is mostly for me to get my feelings out about things that go on in my life and in the world.

My other two blogs are much more follow-worthy. When I first got my Milford Cabinet internship in 2008 I stated my Theatre Is My Life blog to catalouge the articles I wrote for the Cabinet. This later grew to include entries about Broadway related news, posts about Glee, American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance and reviews of local and community shows that I attend. I also occassionally post favorite clips of mine that I find on youtube. My blog about my job training program at St Joe's was mostly designed to inform my family and friends about the program and the new expreineces I am gaining from it.

So that's why I blog. I hope you found this entry informative.

Interviews

I was caught by surprise when I got to work on Wednesday and found I had an interview at the Cardiovascular Center at 9:00. It went well and I feel very confident about getting the position. My friend Kim also interviewed for the job and she feels her interview went well too. If I don't get this job this rotation it will be first on my list for next rotation. My next interview is at 10:30 on Tuesday at the Front Desk. Crossing my fingers and hoping it goes well.
If those two positions do not pan out one alternative is the Senior Center and another is possibly talking to my job trainer to see if I can stay on at the Oncology Center Front Office for the next rotation since no one has interviewed for that position.

Step 1: Job Shadowing

This week we have been going around to different department shadowing the different positions and see what they do in various departments. It's a really good idea because it helps us to narrow down our choices and decide which deparments are not a good fit for us.

Here is the list of places I am considering applying at

1st Choice Cardiovascular Center

#1 2nd Choice Front Desk

#2 2nd Choice Marketing- No position avaialable

#1 3rd Choice Breast Care Center

#2 3rd Choicc Human Resources- No position available
#3 3rd Choice Dictation - won't be avaialble til next rotation
#4 3rd Choice Medical Records- No position available.

Back ups (will be 1st or second choices for next rotation)
Senior Center
Mail Delivery

Up to this point I have job shawdoed for the Cardiovascular Center, Front Desk and Breat Care Center. The job in the Cardiovascular Center involves losts of data entry and filing and also getting the mail and delivering it to the doctors offices. I really liked that position a lot and think it would be a great fit for me. Front Desk is also something I think I would like to do. It's involves a lot of customer service and answering phones two things I am very good at. The Breast Care Center however is a job that I don't think will fit my skill set. While it has some data entry work as well as getting the mail a majority of the job consists of folding reminder letters about mammogram appointments which I think I will struggle significantly with. Yesterday I went to Vocational Rehab with Lori Corbett to job shadow dictation job. I think it went really well. There is no availbitly for that internship this time around but it'ssomething to consider for the 3rd rotation. This job involves recording meetings and then typing up meeting minutes.. something I've had somewhat of experiecne with when it comes to doing my Milford Cabinet interviews.

Thinking ahead to the 3rd rotation Dictation is a definite. I am hoping that Marketing Human Resources and Medical Records will have open positions. As far as other considerations we will have to see where the chips fall on interviews for this rotation and which position I get. Whichever job I do not get this time around will be my first choice for rotation three followed by Dictation.

YES!

Verdict of Steven Spader trial: Guilty. Life in prison without the possibility of parole.
My thoughts: So happy. At least now the Cates family can have a bit of closure. Hopefully Christopher Gribble will get a similar sentence.

Transitional period

So the first internship rotation is slowly winding to a close. Only two more full weeks left and then two days before we go on Thanksgiving vacation. The internship in IS ended up falling flat because a lot of the time they did not have a lot of work for me to do. Now I am working in the Oncology Center full time splitting time up between front office work and filling in for my friend Scott working with the patients. I am going to really miss working in the Oncology Center once the internship ends.

We have started to make our decisicions for where we want to go for our second internship. Marketing Medical Records and Human Resources did not end up having opening positions which was a bummer. It is also kind of disappointing that they do not have a very huge variety of jobs to fit my skill set though a few new departments have opened up Office Admin internships. On Monday and Wednesday I job shawdoed in the Cardiovascular Rehab Center which I really enjoyed. I think I will benefit a lot from that position if I get the job. The other two top choices I have are the Front Desk and The Breat Care Center. My back ups are Endoscopy the mail route and the Senior Center. Interviews begin the week after next. Crossing my fingers that I get one of my top two choices.

Reflecting (once again) on a past reflection

As I was paging through my old entries I came across a post from October 2007 when I was pondering my future. This was when my Barn Playhouse depression was in its very earlier stages... since then it has certainly had it's ups and downs but I am happy to say that I made due with my demons and put anything related to the Barn in the past. Don't know what really took me so long.
Anyway back to the reflection I am reflecting on... this refers to the entry Deep Pensivity in Danforth dated October 20th 2007. That reflection was a reflection of a previous reflection from the end of August from a conversation I jumped in on at the final brunch at Wally and Bud's at the Barn Playhouse. The gist of the coversation which Bud was having with Nic Rouleau, Will Porter and Paul Rawlings was about where they see themselves in the future. Generally speaking I have thought about this question quite a bit since that time though I think at the time the question was more so geared toward their careers in theatre.

At the time of the original reflection I was confused about my future and where I saw myself 5 10 or even 15 years from now. Now that I have been out of college for the past three years and have dealt with the horrendous economy I can happily say I am on my way to getting the life I planned for myself. Theatre always remains my true passion as does writing but I don't really think I will be able to make a living out of that. Right now I am in a job training program at St Joesph's Hospital in Nashua which is going very well. The struggle that I had in my previous jobs was that they did not really fit my skillls and then my disabiliteis came into play. This program is giving me training in different departments within the hospital. I am really hoping that the economy turns around well enough by the end of the program so I can get a full time or part time job at the hospital... I'm leaning more toward full time because I want to be able to be independant and live on my own. The downfall of Amherst is that there is no public transportation so I am hoping to move to Nashua if I get a job at the hospital after Project Search.

Theatrewise my main goal has always been to work for a public relations department for a theatre. Since my Barn Playhouse internship I had a brief internship at Peacock Players in Nashua then got a freelance writing job at the Milford Cabinet for which I am still employed. I write articles about the shows that the Milford Area Players and Riverbend Youth Company productions. It's been a good experience and I've met a lot of interesting people through writing my articles. Getting complimentary tickets to plays and going to the NH Theatre Awards are also an added benefit. Nashua is awesome because there are a varetry of theatres I could potientially do publicity for. Peacock Players, Actorsingers, Stage Coach Productions and Nashua Theatre Guild. Portsmouth is my ultimate goal for a place to live if I can make enough money to live out there.. it's really expensive to leave in Portsmouth.

For the record

The Steven Spader trial absolutley sickens me. I can't even bear to watch news coverage of it and feel so terrible that Mr. Cates and Jamie have to go through this.
