More reflections about where my future could poteintially lead me

I am taking a class this semester called Carreer Development. It wasn't one of my favorite classes I took this semester but in the same regard it was one of the easiest. Since I am constantly thinking about what i am going to do with the rest of my life I figured I would post my final paper for that class in this blog to give you readers (whoever even reads this) insights on what i want to do with the rest of my life.

At this time I am not totally and completely sure what I want to do for a job after I graduate. I have had many experiences over the past couple of summers that could point me in the direction of a possible career but nothing is set in stone yet. These jobs have included working as a theatre camp counselor at The Souhegan Valley Boys and Girls Club in Milford NH, interning at the Milford Cabinet in Milford NH and working at the New London Barn Playhouse in New London,NH as a publicity and technical theatre intern. Writing and technical theatre have been passions of mine for quite a long time. Writing since I was in junior high and tech theatre since I was in high school. The thing I enjoy the most about technical theatre is the sense of pride I get with the knowledge that I was able to help in putting together a theatrical production in various behind the scenes aspects. What interests me the most about this field is the fact that my continuing curiosity is fostered in various aspects of technical theatre whether it be sound, props, set design or lighting design.
The camp job at the Boys and Girls Club and the internship at the Barn Playhouse helped to combine my two passions of writing and technical theatre. When I worked at the camp counselor I got experience as both a director and scriptwriter helping the campers writer a play that they performed for their families at the end of the summer. At the Barn Playhouse I wrote copy for radio commercials as well press releases for the plays and assistant directed a children’s play that based on my mother’s book Bravery Soup.
Throughout these various experiences I have had I have gained insight to possible jobs I could have after I graduate. Now we just have to see where my intuition will lead me.

Future

Ok so earlier in my entries somewhere back around early October I reflected on a conversation I caught the tail end of at the last brunch at Wally and Bud's house that Bud was having with Paul, Nic and Will about dreams and the future and whatever else they were talking about.... this entry is going to counteract that entry because I sounded some what confident what what I wanted to do with the rest of my life in that entry.... well I take a lot of what I said before back if that's possible to do....
I sounded in the previous entry that I had a pretty clear idea what I wanted to do with the rest of my life based on my experience I had at the Barn Playhouse this summer but honestly public relations work for a theatre is just one possible job that I could do and there are so many other jobs I could do. The main goal I have for myself over January break is to start looking for possible places around the area that I could work next year. As anxious as I am to be done with school the whole idea of being in the real world in less than a year really really is starting to freak me out. School is kind of like my safe zone. I have my friends and things to keep me occupied like going to the sports games and the plays... once I graduate that's all gonna change. Sure I'll still come back and visit but it's not going to be the same as seeing my friends every day. It's just like graduating high school all over again... though the level of anxiety that I have is about 20,000 times bigger than the anxiety level I had when I graduated high school in 2004.
Commuincations is the broadest major that one can select. There is so much that one can do with it. Do I really want to make a carrer out of doing PR work for a theatre? Sure working at the Barn Playhouse this summer was fun but will I actually be able to make a decent living out of something like that if that's the career field that I choose to go into? Will I be able to make a career out my writing? I've been writing poetry since I was 12 years old.. if I make a living off of that solely then I'll end up living on a street corner in a box somewhere. I kind of wish I had stuck with doing my radio show this year but I chose not to do it because my schedule was too full of other stuff to do. I really liked doing that. I also like writing for the New Englander so maybe I could end up being a theatre critic for a newspaper.. who knows?

I'm soooo mind boggled... so baffled..... so confused. I don't know where my first thought should lead me as far as looking for a job.

Peace love life

Goals

At the beginning of every semester I establish goals for myself and I like to see how I do with completing those goals. Here are the goals i established for myself in August... let's see how well I have done with accomplishing them
This year I will not obsess about my grades too much to point where I drive myself crazy
Check! I haven't had that many issues with time management issues either.

This year I will try not to be so negative about myself when it comes to guys
Had a relationship for a month.. kinda like two guys right now not sure if it is worth it to pursue the crushes or not because I feel like I would much rather focus on school.
This year I will make auditioning for the plays easier for myself by not comparing myself to the other people I am auditioning with and go with the flow of things
Got cast in a play!! Finally! It won't be happening til next semester i am so excited!
I will find someone to teach me guitar in my free time (whenever I have any) so I can put my my song lyrics to sheet music .
All my free time is basically toward theatre stuff so i haven't found any time to find someone to teach me guitar. I am looking into buying this music software called Finale that Will was telling me about over the summer so I can put my song lyrics to sheet music in order to perform for either the musical review that Elise and Cynthia are directing for CTE or for showcase.

I will fine tune some of my poetry and short stories so I can get it published in the Henniker Review.
I will make the freshmen feel comfortable with NEC life.
I will go to the gym at least twice a week. pssssssh that didn't happen.... at all my schedule was too busy and in ruslt i am getting fat..... :(

I will strengthen the friendships I have make new ones and try to get one that fell by the wayside a little bit last year back on track. The main friendship that fell by the wayside last year is pretty much null in void because said person transferred to a different school and we don't talk anymore. All other friendships are dandy though.

I will join at least one new club since I have dropped out of so many.
Joined two new clubs.... Student Art Association and NECRA. NECRA didn't hold my attention for very long. Student Art Association is interesting.
I will balance my eating habits better so I am not eating the same thing at Gilmore all the time. umm things are getting slightly better with that... when i don't eat at gilmore i either eat in my room or at the simon center cafe

I will work on saving my money so I can have qutie a bit to go somewhere with my friends over spring break ( this would mean not having so many movie nights and doing at least one thing different other than watching movies and going to the plays.) ummm yeah...... about that. my money saving habits have not been exactly up to par because i spent all my flex cash money at the beginning of the semester... damn cake... and when i max out on my meal plan and have no food in my room i have no other choice then to eat at either St. George's Cafe or Sonny's. with the added expensees of necessary food items (groceries) unnecssary food items ( food for nights when I get together with Erin and Stacey to watch Tila Tequila on Tuesdays) and money for play tickets i put quite a dent in how much money i took out of my bank account but hopefully i will still have plenty to go somewhere over spring break. NYC I am hoping..... so bad! NLBP INTERN REUNION YEAH!!

These are the methods I must take to make my senior year of college a successful one. As far as reducing the amounts of movie nights go here is what i figured for that: *Movie nights every two weeks instead of every week (On weekends when the plays happen we will not have a movie night)*We will leave one or two days a month open to doing something other than watching movies and going to the plays. Suggestions are welcome.* Do something special whenever some one in the group has a birthday.. at the discretion at whosever birthday it may be.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!!

Love

2 Awesome Shows and A Night of Rock And Roll

I went home this weekend. I needed to get away from NEC. I find it easier to concnetrate on my homework when I am home because at school I find myself distracted way too easily by so many other various things that go on on campus. I had two papers to work on that I probably would have not gotten done very effeciently had I stayed at NEC this weekend. They are both due tomorrow. Thursday night I went to Brothers Menachmus with Erin and Rae. That was the funniest show I have seen out of all the Mainstage Shows NEC has done. Everyone did amazing and Joe and Nate look good in drag. Erin and Rae both agree with me. I went to see the Souhegan Fall Play which was quite amazing and just as funny as Brothers Menachmus was if not slightly funnier. Last night I went to Boston go to see my Uncle Jay's band play. It was a lot of fun. I had a blast.
Updates on my play: It's not going to be til next semester due to academic conflicts with one of the cast members. Furthur info will come in January so keep your eyes peeled here after the Christmas holidays. I am still just as excited as ever about my acting debut at NEC. It should be a good time.

Class selection for next semester.. over and done! I am so happy with my schedule.
MW
Short Story Workshop
Persuasion and Propaganda
Gender and Power Roles in Media
TR
Dramatic Criticism
and I also might sign up for a theatre lab too but I haven't decided yet.

Time for bed.

Ready for the semester to end

I am more than ready for this semester to be over. I've been ready since after midsemester break ended in October. I feel much more confident about passing Meaning of The Moving Image than I did last week. Talking to my professor helped a lot. My other classes have been going fairly decent. I am going to be so happy when this semester is over because most of the requirements for my major will be completed except for two classes. So other than those two classes my schedule is mostly electives and is pretty much the best spring semester schedule ever... no classes on Fridays. Mondays and Wednesdays are going to kick my ass... severley
as of right now here is what i am taking and this is subject to change after I meet with my advisor tomorrow
Short Story Workshop Harvey 11-12:15 MW
Persuasion and Propaganda Godwin 1-2:15 MW
Gender and Power Roles and Media Godwin 2:30-5:15 MW
Dramatic Criticism Pineault 1-2:15 TR
Theatre Lab Pineault TBA

I have no idea what is going on with the play I am going to be in at this point. I'm still waiting for more information on what play we're doing. There's only four people in it. Me, my roommate Jacci, my friend Tamika and my friend James. All the information I know about it so far is that it's a one act. If I find out anything more you alll will be the first to know (and by you all I mean whoever reads this blog.)

So yeah that's pretty much my life right now. Busy busy busy. Looking so foward for Thanksgiving Break and even more so Christmas Break

Peace Out Homeslices
Sweet Janine (even though Will and I are fighting right now and I'm currently not talking to Bobby for some bizzare reason I'm still sticking with that nickname because I like it so there. :P )
